The Department of Agriculture and Water resources (DAWR) has recently released the final seasonal measures for treatments of the BSMB or ‘Stink Bug’.
There are currently a hundred DAWR approved OFFSHORE treatment providers with more in progress and others requiring further information. There are now four BMSB Approved Providers in Singapore, which is a major transhipment point. DAWR has consulted with industry and agreed to amend the requirement to allow ONSHORE treatment of FAK & LCL Target High Risk Goods. Re-consolidated LCL consignments of high-risk goods at a transhipment point (e.g. Singapore) may be treated ONSHORE.
ONSHORE Sulfuryl Fluoride Treatment Approved
DAWR has issued Notice 110-2018 announcing ONSHORE Sulfuryl Fluoride (SF) fumigation at approved treatment providers in Australia. Applications for approval as an approved arrangement (AA) Class 12.2 – Sulfuryl fluoride fumigation biosecurity industry participant (BIP) can now be submitted to the department.
Industry operators wishing to perform SF fumigations under the direction of the department must apply for and become approved as a class 12.2 BIP.
Three options will allow for more goods to be treated by either of these measures. This is relevant if fumigating a FAK container of untreated high risk goods and other non-BMSB mixed goods.
– Sulfuryl fluoride fumigation
– Methyl bromide fumigation
– Heat treatment
DAWR has recently finalised the biosecurity measures for the 2018-19 Brown Marmorated Stink Bug season. These measures prescribe mandatory treatment for specific cargo imported on specific pathways. The department offers SF fumigation as a treatment option, both offshore and onshore.
To gain assurance of the effectiveness of treatments conducted, DAWR has developed a Sulfuryl fluoride fumigation “methodology,†which prescribes the manner in which SF fumigations are performed. An approved arrangement has been developed to provide regulatory oversight of these treatments. For more information, talk to us here at Colless Young.
