Australia’s third busiest port has secured some of the country’s most recognisable businesses for its expanding $2bn property portfolio. The Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd (PBPL) is on a drive for growth – and – for the fourth year running, it has received a coveted 5-star GRESB rating. In the last financial year, PBPL handled about $60bn worth of cargo while its property business had 48.35ha of leased/committed projects across its five precincts. About 50% of the Port’s revenue now comes from property.
Currently more than 590ha of industrial land at the Port is subleased and managed by PBPL to over 70 customers/tenants – the latest being Electrolux. Neighbours across the wider estate will include a range of other global and national port-related businesses including Bunnings, Fisher & Paykel and Steelforce.
Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd (PBPL) CEO Neil Stephens said he was pleased to welcome the significant new anchor tenant to Port West Stage 2.
“Port of Brisbane provides an unrivalled opportunity for trade-related businesses such as the Electrolux Group, including the availability of large format greenfield sites located so close to the Port’s terminals and wharves,” he said. “This will be the first time PBPL will seek to deliver a 6-Star Green-Star rated facility for our customers and the opportunity to do so aligns strongly with our own sustainability ambitions.”
In designing the facility to meet the 6-Star requirements, Port of Brisbane is incorporating a rooftop solar installation, and a distinctive Glulam and CLT timber structure to the office and showroom, and will utilise low-carbon concrete solutions, where practical.
For the fourth year running, Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd (PBPL) has received a 5-star GRESB rating – a globally recognised assessment that evaluates ESG performance and sustainability ‘best practices’ for real estate and infrastructure funds, companies and assets worldwide.
Based on data for the FY22 financial year, PBPL’s overall score increased to 98/100, ranking it as the number 1 port in Australia out of 6 in its division.
While the port area has a long history, it has only been since the 1070s that the Port of Brisbane as it is known today started taking shape. What’s changed is the sixth port area, the reclaimed land, which will provide more than another 200ha to be developed over the next 15 to 20 years.
PBPL’s 2022/23 Sustainability Report is available on their website.
