Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd (PBPL) has announced a multi-year project to envisage what it could look like in 40 years’ time, to be known as PortBris 2060. The project will be underpinned by ‘futures thinking’ and an extensive research and consultation program.
Led by strategy consultants Business Models Inc and supported by a consortium of subject matter experts, the project has commenced with a significant phase of research that will help develop a range of scenarios that will be widely consulted on.
In the New Year, PBPL and the PortBris 2060 project will engage with a wide range of port stakeholders including its customers, supply chain partners, government, community and environmental stakeholders to seek their feedback and inputs into the project.
PBPL CEO, Neil Stephens, said PortBris 2060 was a unique opportunity for port stakeholders to help create a blueprint for the future. He wrote:
“PortBris 2060 is a rare opportunity to (re)imagine what a new type of port could look like and how it should work to tackle the supply chain challenges of global significance and provide a global model for maritime sector innovation and growth.”
“The futures we’ll explore during the project have complex political, economic, technological, environmental and social dimensions. The answers we find will present some complex problems that are interconnected, interdependent, and context specific. This is why emphasis has been placed on future visioning, research and analysis, stakeholder consultation and learning over the course of the project.”
Brendan Connell, Executive General Manager of Sustainability and Corporate Relations for the PortBris 2060 Project Lead, wrote:
“PortBris 2060 is unique, bold and far reaching. A ground breaking project set to transform the future of the Port of Brisbane.
“Our vision is to create a port that is here for the future. A port that transcends traditional industry boundaries, becoming a key player the global economy and a vital link in the world’s supply chains.
“By embracing collaborative partnerships, innovative technologies and adopting sustainable practices, we aim to explore exciting future pathways to create a future-proof port that is adaptable, efficient, and beneficial for all our stakeholders and our entire community.”
