Port of Brisbane Leads the Way

Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd (PBPL) has welcomed new Chairman, Mr Guy Cowan, to the role, beginning February 17. Mr Cowan will assume the position following the retirement of long serving Port of Brisbane Chair, Mr Jerry Maycock, whose tenure comes to an end after first being appointed Chairman of the PBPL Board in November 2010.

The appointment follows the recent announcement that PBPL has become the first port in Australia to publish measurable Sustainability Targets, designed to support a “laser-like focus on driving sustainability across the business.”

In November, Port of Brisbane received a 5-star GRESB rating for its sustainability work – the top ranked port company – and was a finalist in the 2020 World Port Sustainability Awards for its NCOS Online Technology.

PBPL will soon launch additional sustainability training for its staff, as another tool to help ensure their team understand and support the role sustainability plays across their business and the broader port community.

“The Port is a critical infrastructure asset, not just for Queensland but the entire country. It has an enviable record of infrastructure investment, supply chain enablement and support for its local community. I look forward to working with my new Board colleagues and the entire PBPL team as we continue to invest in the Port and therefore the economy, well into the future,” Mr Cowan said. “I’m confident PBPL has and will continue to live it up to its vision of being Australia’s leading port: here for the future.”

PBPL’s strategy for sustainability brings together business initiatives across four key themes: Planet, People, Prosperity and Partnerships. It sets out short and long-term aspirations as well as an overall goal for each key theme, which they aim to achieve by 2030.
