New Biosecurity Portal to Launch in February

From 01 February 2023 the Biosecurity Portal will be the only way for most clients to book cargo import inspections with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF). The portal is a streamlined process for booking import inspections that gives clients full control of requests including changes and cancellations.  This will result in the current email booking method no longer being supported from midnight on 31 January 2023 for most request for inspection bookings.

This week DAFF has issued Industry Advice Notice 17-2023: Biosecurity Portal display of Import Directions, advising of changes to the ability to view Agriculture Import Management System (AIMS) direction information Digital users of the Biosecurity Portal.

DAFF has developed the Biosecurity Portal to be an easy online method for booking and managing import inspections. Through the Portal, clients also have access to Agriculture Import Management System (AIMS) direction information, in addition to the AIMS Direction being issued via email.

Import clients, signed up to use the Portal via myGovID, will be able to view AIMS Direction information issued by the department if:

  • Approved Arrangements – if the AA number is listed against an active AIMS Direction.
  • Brokerage – the ABN of the brokerage is listed against the import declaration in the Integrated Cargo System (ICS).
  • Importer – the ABN of the importer is listed against the import declaration in the ICS.

Please refer to the example of how AIMS Direction information is presented via the Portal.

If you have difficulty accessing the Biosecurity Portal display of Import Directions document, contact your broker or the Import Industry Advice Notices team direct for assistance.
