Keeping Victorian Cargo Moving Under Covid

At the time of writing, Friday 17 July, Victoria has just reported 428 new coronavirus cases, the highest daily increase since the pandemic began, and another three people have died from the virus. The rapid spread of the virus is forcing the Victorian Government to consider further Stage 4 restrictions.

Many of our clients will be wondering if the further restriction will impact on essential shipping and transport services. The Victorian Minister for Ports, Freight and Freight Victoria has provided an update which says, in part:

“We would like to assure you that freight and logistics services will continue to operate under current restrictions. This includes the complete supply chain across ports, roads, rail, maritime, stevedoring, intermodal, transfer facilities, distribution, warehousing, freight yards, depots and systems. Keeping goods moving during the COVID-19 outbreak will ensure essential services can continue to operate.

However, the government expects that those services will be provided in compliance with all relevant government directions, regulations and public health guidance on COVID-19, including recommended work practices to keep employees safe.

We are very mindful of the pressures facing the sector, and the need for us to work together to safely maintain operations across Victorian supply chains.”

We will continue to inform you regarding the situation in Melbourne as we receive updates from our interstate offices and Freight Victoria.
