Further to our report in late November that Patrick Terminals were to establish Representative Landside Efficiency Groups at major Australian ports, they have announced an increase in Landside Charges. Landside Services cover the loading and unloading of containers on and off trucks and rail wagons at container parks, which differs from Quayside Services, covering the loading and unloading of a vessel.
Patrick is inviting feedback on its proposed landside fee increases by 27 January 2023 prior to the release of a Final Notice on 03 February 2023. Industry representative body Container Transport Alliance Australia (CTAA) has outlined its intention to submit its views to Patrick, including concerns about:
– Justification for an increase in the No-Show and Wrong Time Zone Fees.
– Reconsideration of the Long Vehicle Fee in Brisbane and Sydney.
– Continued concern from transport operators about the Weight Amendment Fee for import containers found to be +/- one tonne different from the Verified Gross Weight (VGM).
The landside charge will be applied to both road and rail transport operators for all full container movements, both import and export, made at the Terminals.
Patrick Terminals have issued lists of their intended increases, which are different at each of the ports, Brisbane, Fremantle, Sydney and Melbourne, and also different for both Imports and Exports. Once the process has been finalised, we will be in a position to advise our clients which particular amounts will be applicable to their cargo.
Patrick has also ‘updated’ its Vehicle Booking System (VBS) fees in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne and Fremantle, and adjusted its other Ancillary Charges. The intended Landside and Ancillary charges have been published on Patrick’s website.
