A digital platform to streamline processes and regulations for agricultural exporters has won a 2022 Australian Good Design Award. Recognised by the World Design Organization (WDO) as Australia’s peak international design endorsement program, the Australian Good Design Awards has been promoting excellence in design and innovation since 1958.
Acting Deputy Secretary of DAFF (the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry) Nicola Hinder PSM said the award was recognition of the work her department had put in to make exporting easier.
“The Export Service is a new tool designed to transform how exporters deal with government,” Ms Hinder said. “Exporting establishments can sign up to the Export Service for better control and visibility of their information online.
The Australian Good Design Awards continues a long and proud legacy of showcasing the very best in design and innovation to a global audience. The Awards are one of the longest-running international design awards in the world, promoting excellence in design and innovation since 1958.
Recognised by the World Design Organization (WDO) as Australia’s peak international design endorsement program, the Australian Good Design Awards represents the diverse spectrum of design with 11 design disciplines covering more than 30 categories and sub-categories.
CEO of Good Design Australia and Chair of the Australian Good Design Awards Dr Brandon Gien said the Good Design Award was a valuable independent endorsement of professional design quality. “This is an inspiring example of digital and communicative innovation. This incredible development is clearly tomorrow-focused and will streamline workflows, increase efficiency and future-proof Australia’s export market,” Dr Gien said.
In related news, DAFF has released its new step-by-step exporter guides for each commodity. These digital guides provide businesses with a one stop shop to the DAFF’s export information for dairy, eggs, seafood, meat, live animals, plants and other items. The guides link to applications, registrations, approvals, fees and charges, and also to the Manual of Importing Country Requirements (Micor) for trading partner requirements. The guides also assist exporters to sort between products for the specific export requirements – such as ice-cream needing to meet the requirements for non-prescribed goods rather than for dairy.
These latest announcements come hot on the heels of DAFF’s development of artificial intelligence (AI) and a mobile phone app to identify the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB in partnership with CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency, and Microsoft.
All these innovations demonstrate DAFF’s commitment to design digital content that is modern, efficient, accessible and easy to use. They are part of agricultural export trade reforms helping businesses get our premium Aussie products to international markets faster.
