Australian Export Milestones

Applications for the 62nd Australian Export Awards close Friday 14 June 2024. They are an invaluable experience for Aussie companies wanting to unlock new business opportunities and receive global recognition.

Over more than six decades, the Australian Export Awards has recognised more than 2,000 Australian exporters who have achieved international success in diverse sectors, through their commitment, innovation and leadership. The awards celebrate the achievement of Australian businesses exporting home-grown innovation to the world.

Export Milestones
The Free Trade Agreement with the UK has just reached its first anniversary and new figures reveal there has been a 100% increase in exports, which have reached a massive $5 billion. Beef, fruit, medical devices and solar industries have been among the chief beneficiaries of the deal. Two-way trade was up to $11.8 billion in the first ten months of the FTA, after tariffs on 99% of goods were scrapped.

The minister for Agriculture (DAFF), Murray Watt, said “On May 31 we celebrated the first anniversary of the UK FTA. In the first nine months of this FTA beef export volumes are 350% higher than they were in the nine months before, while lamb export volumes are up 52%.”

“Meanwhile, we’ve exported over $1 million worth of sheepmeat to India for the first time ever since the elimination of India’s 30% tariff on sheepmeat imports. On top of this, we’ve exported 79 million tonnes of beef to Indonesia. These are incredible figures.”

This news comes just days after China lifted a ban on five of Australia’s biggest red meat exporters with “immediate effect”, dismantling one of the last barriers in an easing trade dispute.

Other star performers under the UK  FTA have been fruit exports, which soared 291% to $1.5 million and medical devices – such as implants – up 769% to $106.8 million.
