Changes to the Defence Export Control System

The following information concerns any person or company conducting business with the Department of Defence. On 14 January 2016, software upgrades to the Defence Export Control System (DECS) will be implemented. This includes new versions of the application forms used by Defence which will be made available from Wednesday 13 January 2016, through the DECO and Australia-US Defence Trade Cooperation Treaty websites.

The changes to DECS will introduce changes that will allow clients to:

-          apply for an assessment of whether an item is listed on the Defence and Strategic Goods List, and whether the act of supplying, publishing or brokering is controlled:

-          submit applications on behalf of other parties, where all parties are collaborating on a project or research activity; and

-          be issued with permits on which the expiration date of the permit matches the end date of a defence-related contract.

If you have any questions, you can contact DECO on 1800 66 10 66 or the Australia-US Trade Treaty section on 1800 00 57 57.
